Lincoln men win Gourley Open in track and field

LIBERTY - The Lincoln men's track team won its first outdoor title of the season Saturday at the Darrel Gourley Open hosted by William Jewell.

The Blue Tigers scored 117 points in the 21-event meet, finishing 13 points ahead of second-place Missouri S&T. Columbia College was third with 81 points and MidAmerica Nazarene took fourth with 75.

The Lincoln women were second with 88 points, trailing Park's 107 points. Northwest Missouri was third with 80 points and MidAmerica Nazarene placed fourth with 72.

On the men's side, Lincoln won six events and claimed the top five spots in the 200-meter dash. Faedian Royes won the 200 - which consisted of 42 competitors - with a time of 20.85 seconds. He was followed by Stephen Rose (20.93), Miguel Barton (20.97), Jakiel David (21.30) and Roberto Smith (21.44).

The Blue Tigers had the top two times in the 400-meter hurdles, with Darran Hunter taking first in 54.71 seconds, followed by Alva Henry in 55.83. Lincoln also finished 1-2 in the 100-meter dash. Smith won in 10.35 seconds, while David was runner-up in 10.44.

Royes won the 800-meter run in 47.63 seconds and Kevon Robinson took the title in the 800-meter run in 1:57.94. Lincoln also won the 4x100-meter relay with Smith, Rose, David and Oshane Hylton clocking a time of 40.07 seconds.

Alex Templeton finished second in the high jump, clearing 6 feet, 9 inches.

The Lincoln women won seven events, including a pair of relay events, to account for 70 of their 88 points.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Sharolyn Joseph Hamblet, Kissi-Ann Brown, Kimberley Bailey and Renea Ambersley posted a time of 46.85 seconds. The 4x400-meter relay team of Ja'Ianna Williams, Ambersley, Brown and Shanice Clarke won their race by next 20 seconds, crossing the finish line in 3:48.45.

Bailey was a double-winner in individual events, taking home titles in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. She won the 100 in 11.52 seconds and the 200 in 24.04. Diana Cauldwell added a second-place finish in the 100 in 11.79.

Ambersley won a title in the 400-meter dash in 56.20 seconds and Clarke took first in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:02.65. Williams added a win in the 800-meter run in 2:19.58.

In field events, Lexanna Morgan led the Blue Tigers with a fourth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 17-6.25.

Lincoln will from Wednesday through Saturday in the Kansas Relays, as well as the Dewey Allgood Invitational on Saturday at Missouri S&T.

Missouri S&T's John Karsten won the men's hammer throw at the Gourley Open with a distance of 176-3.

Karsten (Blair Oaks High School) added a pair of top-three finishes at the Open, taking second in the shot put (48-10.25) third in the discus (152-8).

Freshman Matt Fringer (Russellville High School) was on William Woods' 4x800-meter relay team, which finished first in a time of 8:28.03.

As for the women's side, William Woods junior Madelyn Scrivner posted an NAIA automatic-qualifying mark in the hammer throw. Scrivner (Eldon High School) won the event by nearly 20 feet with a throw of 173-6, which will guarantee her a spot in next month's NAIA National Championships.

She also took seventh place in the shot put with a throw of 39-5, accounting for 12 of the Owls' 58 points to finish sixth in the women's team standings.

Senior Kaylee Ferrier (Helias High School) was fifth in the hammer throw with a toss of 143-8.

Sophomore Justice Miller (Russellville High School) ran with the Owls' 4x800-meter relay, which finished second in 11:47.62. She was also on the 4x100-meter relay, which placed sixth in 51.63 seconds.

William Jewell freshman Lexie Stull (Jefferson City High School) had a season-best mark in the triple jump, finishing seventh with a jump of 34-5.75. She also ran on the Cardinals' 4x100- and 4x400-meter relays, which finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
