Lincoln women's basketball loses 73-70 at Quincy

QUINCY, Ill. - The Lincoln women's basketball team got to within one after trailing by as many as 22 points in Wednesday's game against Quincy, but the Blue Tigers couldn't get the go-ahead bucket to lose 73-70.

A Quincy 3-pointer with 6:12 remaining in the third quarter capped off a 7-0 run to make the lead 52-30.

Lincoln trailed by 16 heading into the fourth quarter, but only allowed the Hawks to score 11 in the final 10 minutes.

The first basket of the fourth quarter was a 3-pointer from Citali Lopez.

Shamirah Johnson added a her fourth 3-pointer two and a half minutes later to cut the deficit to 10.

Lincoln got to within a point following Azaria Nave's layup with 2:51 left to play.

Quincy took a 73-70 lead with seven seconds remaining thanks to a pair of free throws. Nave's long-range shot was no good to end the game.

Nave was one of six Blue Tigers to score in double figures. She and Johnson led Lincoln with 14 points. Hunter Yoakum added 12 with Erica Gibbons and Tyler Brown-Henderson each scoring 11.

Brown-Henderson recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds.

Johnson shot 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. Lopez made two of her three 3-point attempts.

Nave had two of Lincoln's six steals in the game. The Blue Tigers had a 16-10 advantage in turnovers.

Lincoln shot 25-of-58 (43.1 percent) compared to 28-of-63 (44.4 percent) for Quincy.

Lincoln (1-4) plays at 7 p.m. Thursday at Nebraska-Omaha in an exhibition game.

The Blue Tigers' next regular season matchup is Dec. 3 in the Show-Me Classic in St. Charles. Lincoln will face off against Harris-Stowe State, an NAIA school.
