College Wrestling: Johnson wins title

ST. CHARLES - Chattanooga senior Jared Johnson finished first in the heavyweight division last Saturday at the Joe Parisi Lindenwood Open.

Johnson (Jefferson City High School), ranked No. 13 in the heavyweight division according to InterMat, won his first four matches of the tournament by fall, with all four pins taking placing in the first period.

Johnson won the championship match against Caleb Cotter of Central Oklahoma by a 9-7 decision. Johnson improved to 7-1 this season, winning five matches by fall. His only loss has been to Ty Walz of Virginia Tech, ranked No. 3 in the nation.

Chattanooga will host Virginia on Dec. 4.
