Local athletes compete at national outdoors track and field championships

Two local athletes participated Thursday in collegiate national track and field championships.

Melanie Bower (Linn High School), a senior at Missouri Southern, finished in 10th place in the women's pole vault at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships held in Bradenton, Fla. Bower reached a height of 12-feet, 7.5-inches.

Kaylee Ferrier (Helias High School), a senior at William Woods, placed 28th in the women's hammer throw at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships held in Gulf Shores, Ala. Ferrier's top throw was 139-3.25.
