Hughes named Central Region Position Player of the Year

Deion Hughes of Westminster University has been named the American Baseball Coaches Association Central Region Position Player of the Year.

Hughes (Helias High School) is a senior pitcher/outfielder. He also earned a spot in the ABCA and D3Baseball.com All-Region first team.

As a pitcher, Hughes was 12-2 this season with nine complete games, finishing with a 2.42 ERA and recording 90 strikeouts. The win total and complete games are both school records.

At the plate, Hughes batted .392 with 31 RBI. He scored 44 runs and had a .464 on-base percentage.

Earlier this month, Hughes was named the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year, earning all-conference honors as a utility player.
