Missouri tabs Haley as defensive line coach

COLUMBIA - Missouri announced Friday it named Brick Haley as its defensive line coach. Haley replaces Jackie Shipp, who was fired after Missouri's second-to-last game against Tennessee due to misconduct involving a player. Haley was hired after spending two years in the same role at Texas with a stop at LSU prior to that.

"I'm very excited to have the opportunity to work with Brick Haley, I have had tremendous respect for him over the years," coach Barry Odom said in a statement. "He will be a great mentor and teacher for our student-athletes and will bring leadership and coaching qualities that will make Mizzou football better in every way."

Haley will look to continue Missouri's "D-Line Zou" reputation started by former longtime defensive line coach Craig Kuligowski, who coached first round picks Aldon Smith, Sheldon Richardson and Shane Ray, along with standouts Michael Sam, Kony Ealy, Markus Golden and Charles Harris, who declared for the NFL Draft on Dec. 1. Marcell Frazier and Terry Beckner Jr. are among the returning defensive linemen.

"I'm very pleased and really excited to be joining Coach Odom's program," Haley said in a statement. "We haven't worked together, but I'm very aware of him and the reputation he has in the coaching profession. I look at this as an unbelievable opportunity to work with someone who has such an impressive passion and work ethic. It didn't take me long in our conversations to know that Coach Odom is the right guy and someone you want to work with."
