College Wrestling: Strope wins title

GREAT FALLS, Mont. - McKendree redshirt-junior Ryan Strope posted a 5-0 record Saturday to win the title at 157 pounds Saturday at the Battle of the Rockies Open.

Strope (Fatima High School) improved his season record to 17-3 and was McKendree's lone wrestler to take first place.

In four duals held Friday at the Battle of the Rockies Duals, Stope won all four of his matches. Strope picked up wins by fall against Great Falls' Gage Bentley and Simon Fraser's Tanner Spray, and he also added wins by technical fall against Eastern Oregon's Ryan Middleton and Minot State's Shane Sheppard.

In the NCAA Division II Region 3 rankings released Monday, Strope was ranked No. 1 at 157.

McKendree (4-1), tied for eighth in the NWCA Coaches Division II rankings, will compete Dec. 17 at the Midwest Classic in Indianapolis.
