Brown, Lady Owls earn third consecutive victory

William Woods University junior forward Jasmine Brown scored a game-high 23 points to spur the Lady Owls to their third straight victory, an 84-67 AMC triumph over Missouri Baptist University on Thursday night at Anderson Arena.

William Woods (5-3, 2-1 American Midwest Conference) trailed 4-3 early in the first quarter before going on a 10-0 run that ended with a basket in the paint by Brown with 5 minutes, 45 seconds to go.

The Lady Owls ended up with a convincing 30-10 lead after the quarter and owned a 47-23 advantage at halftime. The Lady Spartans (3-4, 1-1) outscored William Woods 19-16 in the third quarter as the Lady Owls maintained a 63-42 lead.

Senior forward Kelsey Scherder logged 13 points as William Woods shot 50 percent (31-of-62) from the field. Freshman guard Kaycee Gerald chipped in with 12 points and freshman guard Peyton Greenlee came up with 11.

Gerald also collected a game-high nine rebounds to give William Woods a 39-38 edge on the boards.

Amanda Scott finished with a team-high 12 points for Missouri Baptist, which shot 42 percent (28-of-67) as a team. Shaylen Robinson provided 11 points.

The Lady Owls host an AMC game against Harris-Stowe State University at 1 p.m. Sunday.
