Your Opinion: Rein in federal government

Dear Editor:

Is the plan of politicians to continue to grow government until We the People are stripped of all decision making, and income?

I entered high school in 1960, that year U.S. governments (federal, state and local) spent $6,530 per capita. In 2018, U.S. governments spent $21,699 per capita. The figures are inflation adjusted to 2018 dollars. Non-defense spending increased from $4,225/capita in 1960 to $18,948/capita in 2018.

From 1960 to 2017 real (inflation adjusted) household median income rose by 46 percent, while non-defense per capita government spending rose by 348 percent. If the trend continues for another 57 years median household income will grow from $61,372 to $90,000. Non-defense, per capita, government spending will grow to $66,000. Governments will spend $264,000 to provide "services" to a family of four, a family whose average median income is $90,000. Where will governments get this money?

My great-grandchildren are ages 3 and 6. By the time their children enter the workforce will their only option be to work for a government that controls everything, and receive whatever the government chooses to pay them in return for their labor? Our continued devolution toward a Marxist nation, like North Korea, China, Russia, etc, scares me much more than global warming, when it comes to the standard of living my great-great-grandchildren will experience.

PS. More evidence that it is well past time to rein in the federal government, especially activist federal judges. U.S. District Judge Mark Walker, a President Obama appointee, is forcing 32 counties to provide Spanish-language ballots for the 2020 presidential primaries. To become a naturalized U.S. citizen you must, "Be able to read, write and speak basic English." Do we want someone who was born in the U.S., and who has lived here 18 years, but has been unable/unwilling to learn basic English, to vote? No one should be allowed to vote unless they can pass the same test immigrants must pass to become citizens. Those of us who are already registered to vote should have our privilege to vote suspended until we pass the test.
