Your Opinion: Official recognition of Satanism

Dear Editor:

I’m writing this letter as a follow-up to my letter ‘U.S. Succumbing to Satanism’ published in the News Tribune 12/29/2018.

Following are the articles and websites referenced in my 12/29/2018 letter:

‘Satanic statue on display in Illinois Capitol rotunda for the holidays’ by Ashley May 12/6/2018. (https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2018/12/06/satanic-statue-display-illinois-capitol-rotunda-holidays/2223852002/)

“Witchcraft Booming in America, ‘More Witches than Presbyterians’” by Thomas D. Williams, Ph.D. 12/22/2018

“Students launch Satanic club at NC State” by William Nardi 12/24/2018.

Now my prediction of official recognition of Satanism has come to fruition. I call your attention to a 4/26/2019 article by Dr. Susan Berry: “Satanic Temple Recognized as ‘Church’ with Tax-Exempt Status” (https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2019/04/26/satanic-temple-recognized-as-church-with-tax-exempt-status/). The “church” makes this statement: “This acknowledgement will help make sure The Satanic Temple has the same access to public spaces as other religious organizations, affirm our standing in court when battling religious discrimination, and enable us to apply for faith-based government grants.”

This confirms our nation’s government has finally officially stated its position of opposition to all references to God in our Pledge of Allegiance and founding documents.

This decision by the IRS should be a wake-up call to all Christians and to any who are appalled by the promotion of evil in our society! Why should the IRS be allowed to favor any so-called non-profit organization by special tax treatment? When one considers this absurd decision and the corruption exposed by the IRS refusal to award the Tea Party non-profit status because of their conservative ideology, I think it’s time to eliminate any special tax status for all non-profits. That way the government is taken out of any special treatment for any organization and then can only be considered impartial. Better yet, do away with the IRS and go with the Fair Tax! God bless and protect our nation!
