Your Opinion: Heaven and hell

Dear Editor:

I recently pointed out in this column that if a mother has her fetuses aborted they will go to heaven, according to virtually all Christian clergymen. That is my projection of clergy opinion based on my experience with Christian clergy and my understanding of the thrust of Christian teaching.

If a Christian mother allows her fetuses to grow to adulthood, the infinitely painful and eternal torture of hell will be the likely fate of some of them. I base that statement on the very common and biblically supported Christian belief that the way to hell is broad and the way to heaven is narrow, which means, according to any interpreting pastor that I have ever heard, that a sizable percentage of Christians will go to hell. The reality described by Christianity is extremely dangerous. Good news? Bad news!

Critics of my honest reportage have tried to create enough of a ruckus in this column to convince those who can be convinced by loud noises that they have undermined the easy clarity of my thoughts with a food fight inspired barrage of Bible verses along with stabs at logical persuasion. These seem to be people with an ordinary moral nature, whose life’s testimony is that Christianity is a just another religion.

Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” Consider the unwanted fetuses that my recent critics claim to care for. Will my detractors take into their home any number of unwanted children who are in need? Of course not, and any competent Christian clergyman can tell them why making no true sacrifice for unwanted children or the rest of a desperate world is acceptable.

Let go of feigned belief. Step into thin air.
