Your Opinion: Trump’s accomplishments

Dear Editor:

I am not a supporter of everything Trump, but I am pleased with most of what has occurred during his time in office. My political leanings put me somewhere between a libertarian and an anarchist. We need a federal government for national defense, to deal with foreign nations and to deal with squabbles between states. Virtually everything else can be left to the states and the people.

I am pleased that President Trump is rescinding some of President Obama’s executive orders. If President Obama had the authority to enact them then President Trump certainly has the authority to rescind them.

I am ecstatic over the appointment of a Supreme Court justice, and soon the appointment of a second justice, who believes the Constitution and its amendments should mean what it/they meant to those who voted in favor of accepting it/them. I would love to see the appointment of more justices who understand the court is the judicial branch, not the legislative branch.

I am pleased that an effort is being made to enforce our immigration laws. If you don’t like the current laws, talk to Congress. Congress is the legislative branch. I would welcome a “points based” immigration plan similar to Canada’s. (Democrats had full control of Congress, even a filibuster proof majority in the Senate, when President Obama was in office, but they chose to do nothing.)

I am pleased that we may see our first year of 3 percent GDP growth since the start of the recession. President Obama’s policies marked the first time in history a president was unable to deliver that level of growth, since the Great Depression.

I am pleased that unemployment is down to 3.9 percent, that black and Hispanic unemployment are at record lows. I am pleased to see median household income at a record high. Anyone who wants to work can find a job.

I am pleased that the government reduced borrowing by giving $285 million less to the UN.

I will be pleased if the U.S. cuts more than $200 million from the $600 million we give annually to Palestinians who hate us.

I am not pleased at the passage of a bloated budget that continues the Sugar Daddy Uncle Sam philosophy of borrowing and spending money on vote buying handouts (for corporations or individuals).
