Your Opinion: Research school board candidates

Leonard Steinman

Jefferson City

Dear Editor:

To parents of children in the Cedar Hill School District:

When I was running for 4th Ward city councilman for the City of Jefferson, I was given the cold shoulder and was being laughed at by some of the mothers of children in this school district. They think I am a joke. Just because they can’t or don’t want to understand that someone cares about the children of our great city.

Well, now it’s my turn to laugh. You have some of the wrong people in the administration of the Jefferson City Public Schools. Do they care about the children? I think not. I feel that they cannot see the best interest of the children but can only see the great old mighty dollars that the school district receives from the federal government. It’s no longer about the best interest of the children, but how much money the school district can get from the federal government for each student. It’s not about quality of education anymore, but more like big business.

Since they want to act like big business, I feel that all candidates for public office should under go a complete and through background check just like an employee must go through for jobs in the private sector and candidates for the school board should have to pass the most thorough back ground check of all.

So, before you vote, educate yourself about the persons running for office. Use the Internet. The information to make informed voting decisions is at your fingertips.
