Your Opinion: Area in city rife with crime

Dear Editor:

There have been several local complaints about an area of Jefferson City, Ventura Boulevard on the West side, regarding crime. I saw a piece on the local news, sorry I do not recall the channel, about beefing up police presence.

I have family that lives on that street in constant fear of the goings on regarding drug dealers and frequent gun shots fired right outside their apartment. Last night they reported five guns shots around 9 p.m. that were just outside their door. They called local JCPD and watched.

The police drove down the street, shined a flashlight from the car and left. My family observed people running down the street that the police did not investigate or get out of their patrol car. They simply drove down and left. It appears to people living on Ventura Boulevard that are not involved in any activities, that the JCPD in this community have careless disregard for enforcing or providing assistance to frightened citizens.

Someone on Ventura is going to end up shot inside their homes from a stray bullet. I presume that will be front page news for you when that occurs.
