Your Opinion: Proclamation for 'Gun Safety Awareness Day' needs clarification

Dear Editor:

Mom's Demand Assassination of Gun Owners in America is a liberal, if not leftist, political organization whose members, as usual, hide their true intent behind the phrase it's "for the children." Did I get their name wrong? My bad. Oh yes, (Moms Demand Action) news release about themselves eventually mentions gun violence. Once the phrase "gun violence" enters the arena of ideas a political agenda is now present. Gun safety and gun violence are entirely two different matters. The definition of the word violence is based upon intentional behavior, to hurt, damage, or kill someone or something. Unintentional access to loaded guns safety talk is just a cover for a different agenda.

The mayor is either ignorant or disingenuous about Moms Demand Action to declare it not a politically motivated group. Shame on article writer Phillip Sitter for lack of due diligence.

Real gun safety rules are as follows:

1. Assume all guns are always loaded. Those "unloaded" guns can bite.

2. Never point the gun muzzle at anything you are not willing to destroy.

3. Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target (Golden Rule).

3(a) Corollary: Inadvertent discharges are really negligent discharges, get over it.

4. Identify your target, and what is behind it. Never shoot at anything that you have not positively identified. (Most of the aforementioned rules use language written by Jeff Cooper.)

Cooper had a large family and was heavily involved in firearms usage and commentary. He never had a safety problem with firearms around his family or friends on multiple continents. Proper training and habits seem to provide safety for all.

Guns have no moral stature; consequently, guns have no will. Solutions for inanimate objects wielded by humans with willful bad intentions already exist but political correctness prohibits the solutions from being implemented.

Public schools used to teach students useful subjects needed to be considered literate but also taught about moral standards so students knew right from wrong, reality from fantasy, and how to control emotions and urges. School prepared the young to be rational, reasonable mature adults that functioned in a civilized society. What kind of teaching is now prevalent?

Correct the educational system and the gun safety and gun violence issues will be corrected within limits of pure evil that has always existed.
