Your Opinion: Misplaced allegiance to Trump

Dear Editor:

I'm responding to Mr. Schroeder's LTE published this past Sunday. Mr. Schroeder loves his country as is evidenced in every word of his letter, but I believe his allegiance is grossly misplaced. Let's look specifically at Mr. Trump's record on jobs, a strong economy, appointees, national security and his stoking of division in America.

Trump promised a significant increase in jobs yet current events show just the opposite. Consider how he touted jobs at the Carrier factory, boasting he got Carrier to keep jobs in the U.S. Instead it's moving much of its operation to Mexico. Walmart boasted giving raises to workers and then told us that it was closing several of its stores. I fear that his next mission to improve infrastructure will create more giveaways for the 1 percent cloaked in a "jobs" package just as he did with the tax cut bill.

His cabinet picks have been abysmal. Ms. DeVos has shown herself to be a serious threat to public education by upending rules for disabled students, removing protections for college students that have been sexually assaulted, and more. Mr. Pruit has seriously reduced protections for our environment and Mr. Zinke has opened all coastal waters, "except Florida," to off-shore drilling and given a special favor to a home town energy business even though it was not qualified to do the job. Secretary of State Tillerson has done little to improve our relations abroad. By gutting the State Department of knowledgeable employees that have served several administrations and not putting new ambassadors in place to speak for the U.S. abroad, he shows he has no knowledge of the depth and breadth of this job. Lastly I believe that Trump has done more damage to our national security than any other president. Every previous president has been able to find a way to work with North Korea without provoking it into hostility. Trump shows venomous behavior to countries that have been our greatest allies, and cozies up to those who wish to do us harm. His latest horrific comments have further deepened divisions in our country.

So no, I don't believe Trump is doing a good job but rather represents the greatest threat our country has ever witnessed. I worry for my family's future as well as that of all Americans and hope for a quick impeachment of Trump.
