Your Opinion: Trump, like Jesus, isn't always politically correct but does right

Dear Editor:

Linda Broker in her LTE is concerned that Trump is dragging Christian ideas into the gutter. Jesus was born in a stable placed in a manger, had followers who were prostitutes and, even worse, tax collectors, was considered a glutton and drunkard, and he told a Canaanite woman (from a different nation and religion) who asked for his help, "It is not right to take the children's bread and toss it to the dogs" only after she proved her faith in him did he heal her daughter.

I have to say I like Trump. He reminds me of the older men that used to sit around the old general store or gas station where I grew up. They were prone to exaggeration, would sometimes say rude, disparaging or downright offensive remarks then sit there watching keenly for your response. (Older women do this too, just in a different setting.) Over the years I learned that this was a test of a person's character. How you responded was how they figured out who you were. Did you have the cognitive awareness to realize what they were doing? Did you respond with a sharp, witty, humorous comment in return, did you get self conscious nervous or scared, did you simply become offended and put your nose in the air and walk out, or were you dismissive and call them "old and senile." Trump says what he does and waits for the response. Over the last two years it has revealed the character of our press, our movie stars, politicians and even our neighbors. Are they even aware that they are being, to use the modern vernacular, "punked"? So far the responses have been a sad indication: vitriol, anger, disrespect, insults and outright lies. The second thing I learned from the older adults was that despite what they seemed on the surface, you could always count on them to do the right thing when it was needed. They weren't afraid of conflict or to get their hands dirty.

Of the presidents we've had how many went to disaster areas and gave their own time and money? Trump used his money to buy truckloads of supplies and was there handing out supplies and giving moral support to the victims. Isn't that what Christians are supposed to do?
