Your Opinion: Sexual misconduct comparisons wrong

Dear Editor:

I am writing in regards to the controversy raging around the alleged sexual misconduct by Judge Roy Moore, Sen. Al Franken and President Trump. I am woefully disappointed that Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-New York) and other liberals have been saying in the past few days that Bill Clinton should have resigned the presidency over his own sexual misdeeds.

This is a horrible false equivalency. Kay Summersby companion of Gen. Eisenhower was not a 12-year-old girl. Fiddle and Faddle, Marilyn Monroe, and many others knew full well that President Kennedy was a married man. There is no indication that they began their relationship with the president when he ran his hand under their dress and grabbed them. Kennedy's smile and charm were quite enough I would suppose.

And neither is Leeann Tweeden equal to Alice Glass. Ms. Glass moved to Virginia in order to be near (in pursuit of?) Sen. Lyndon Johnson when he became a senator. Ms. Tweeden was asleep and quite certainly not a knowing participant in the school boy fun the guys were having.

Women who are consenting adults, even as in the case of Monica Lewinsky or Alice Glass have an equal responsibility in their relationships with men. To make a case that Monica is the equivalent of a 12-year-old girl and Bill Clinton equivalent of a child predator like Roy Moore or any powerful man that brags about being famous and hence able "to grab" women with impunity reduces all women to chattels without ownership of their own mind, body or soul.
