Your Opinion: Cartoon racially offensive

Dear Editor:

Regarding the cartoon in the Sunday, March 12 issue on page A10, you published a cartoon showing Dr. Ben Carson as a cruise director for two men of color drawn as "ape-like" figures in chains.

Dr. Carson is a world-renown neurosurgeon who worked hard to achieve his profession. He happens to be black. He promotes hard work and education. To suggest he promotes slavery is appalling.

Then to show black men as "ape-like," "stupid men" in chains is insulting to anyone of color and anyone who has family or friends of color.

Your "family paper" has published things I've disagreed with before. But this was beyond poor taste. It is racially offensive and highly inaccurate. You should do better.
