Your Opinion: Build bridges, not walls

Dear Editor:

He said: "I will build a great wall. Mark my words." And if he builds that great wall, I will stand with those who help tear it down.

Along with Jefferson City's Faith Alliance, I believe that we are all God's children who are worthy of inclusion and respect. Although we may be of different religions, we are brothers and sisters.

As a Christian, I stand with you if you are Jewish, Muslim, Christian or a member of another religion and a Godly person.

I stand with you if you are Hispanic or any other ethnicity or color, if you are gay or transgender, if you are poor or disabled, if you are elderly and in need of care, if you are a victim of sexual assault, rape, incest or pedophilia.

I stand for those marginalized. And I reject objectification and disrespect for women that has become the new normal this election year.

I reject a Christianity that has whittled the great gospel to select issues which require nothing of them but allows Christians to reign superior and triumphant.

Being a Godly person should require more than being like Little Jack Horner of Mother Goose fame - "He put in his thumb and pulled out a plum, and said, 'What a good boy am I.'"

It's time to build bridges, not "great, great walls."
