Your Opinion: Stop growth of spending

Dear Editor:

The News Tribune recently reported that the federal government rang up a $107.1 billion deficit for August, down from the $112.8 billion July deficit. For the first 11 months of the FY2016 the deficit is up 17.1 percent over last year. At the same time the feds are collecting record amounts of taxes. Comparing the first 11 months of FY 2015 to the first 11 months of FY2016, the feds income is up 0.9 percent while its spending is up 3.4 percent.

What have we got after 7.5 years of Obama? Record amounts of taxes collected and the largest deficits ever recorded, with the exception of the two bailout years (bailouts supported by both Obama and Clinton).

We have seen the rich get richer, because of the gains in the stock market. At the same time the small savers, especially senior citizens who don't have mortgages, have been punished with the ridiculously low interest rates put in place by Obama's Federal Reserve.

We have experienced the worst recovery from any post WWII recession. We have the worst labor participation rate in several generations. Obama's refusal to enforce immigration law, and his attacks on any state that tried to slow the flow of illegals, has brought tens of thousands of illegals flowing into our country every year.

Remember the awful "the sky will fall" predictions during the 2012 sequestration discussions? The drastic "cuts" were supposed to start Jan. 1, 2013. The "cuts" were to continue through 2021. It appears that not only has the sky not fallen, the feds have continued to increase spending even after sequestration. Is there no way that We the People can shut down the growth of the federal government?

Last month the Congressional Budget Office projected FY2016 spending at $3.9 trillion. In FY2012, the year before the dreaded sequestration cuts began, the feds spent $3.5 trillion. Only government could consider this to be spending "cuts." How can you tell if a politician is lying, his/her lips are moving.
