Your Opinion: Clinton most qualified recent candidate

Dear Editor:

A recent letter submitted by Steve Veltrop regarding Secretary Clinton intrigues me. In it he questions her qualifications, whether or not she is truthful, honest, religious, and even questions her health.

Quite frankly she is probably one of the most qualified candidates in recent times. Her service as secretary of state, senator, her work with the Children's Defense Fund, and as an attorney have all made her far more qualified than Mr. Trump. She has been investigated and not found guilty of any wrongdoings, though folks on the right seem to have a voracious appetite for keeping conspiracy theories about her alive. Ms. Clinton gained the respect of many in our country and leaders around the globe starting with her work as first lady and in later times as secretary of state. As far as bills passed she actually helped the first responders from 9/11 to get the medical attention they needed, unlike Senator Blunt whose major accomplishment was a "no" vote for medical help for our veterans. Senators often work with others to get bills passed and Ms. Clinton was part of many pieces of legislation. She was re-elected to her Senate seat. Obviously, New Yorkers were happy with her work.

Mr. Veltrop may remember that our Constitution has no religious test for officeholders so whether or not she espouses a religion is immaterial. Her health is fine. Folks following the plethora of garbage from Brietbart news or its spawn are the only ones who have fallen for the lies regarding her health, but that does make me wonder about Mr. Trump's health, especially after the interview given by his doctor - not too credible.

I am in favor of whatever it takes to keep the insurance protections given to most Americans through the ACA. I wish Missouri legislators would accept the funds from this program to close the insurance gap here. It's okay for them to get free health care from the taxpayers but low income working folks just aren't worthy.

If Ms. Clinton follows her husband's lead, not only will we do better financially than any Republican in modern times, we may even go to surplus as President Clinton accomplished. Ms. Clinton is not perfect but she is extremely qualified to be president. Mr. Trump couldn't even pass eighth-grade civics! Because I care about my country's future, I'm voting for Ms. Clinton.
