Your Opinion: Political system in need of a shakeup

Dear Editor:

John F. Kennedy was the last Democrat I voted for since I believed he had a true vision for America. However, after President Johnson's mingling in and ultimately losing the Vietnam War, I looked to the Republican Party to bring us back on the right track. President Ronald Reagan made strides in doing just that.
Unfortunately, the Republican Party has become an elitist social club working to protect their lucrative jobs and perks rather than doing what is right for the citizens and country. Our Founding Fathers did not intend for congressional positions to be career choices.
So-called journalists and columnists like George Will talk of how Donald Trump will severely damage the Republican Party if he becomes the candidate. Does harming the party mean disrupting a broken system? The "Sophisticated Set" has not done a very good job of running this country.
In our opinion, it is about time someone with courage and knowledge shakes up not only the party, but the entire political system. The whole debacle of caucus and primaries is bordering criminal and shows "We the People" are not in control. The delegates are to vote according to the peoples choice, not for their favorite candidate or who the establishment tells them to!
An extremely important goal Mr. Trump or any president should accomplish would be to effect term limits, not only for members of Congress, but also for the Supreme Court!
The Democratic Party has the same mentality, however we believe they are attempting to steer this country towards socialism due to so many ingrained far left decision makers. They are intent on taking our Second Amendment apart and ultimately finding a way to disarm the citizenry as England and Australia have already done! We must learn from history, not repeat it.
We will be changing our political affiliation to" Independent" if the person with the most votes, no matter whom it may be, does not become the Republican candidate for president.
We urge those who agree to voice your concerns to others and to your respective government representatives.
