Your Opinion: Support city sales tax extension

In earlier years I was not sure the city and county were "playing in the same sandbox" when it came to allocation of capital improvement sales tax dollars.

But in the last 10 years I have seen a number of cooperative projects within the city limits - where city residents are reaping some benefits from their county taxes. That cooperation has made possible some very significant projects like the Mission Drive interchange, East McCarty streetscape improvements and Lafayette Street leading to the new federal courthouse.

That's why I am voting "yes" on Aug. 2 for renewal of the city's half-cent capital improvement sales tax.

The city dollars will once again be pooled with county dollars for several major street projects. And these funds also mean our public safety personnel are provided with modern equipment to they can do their jobs efficiently and safely.
