Your Opinion: Questions about diversity at LU

Dear Editor:

I read with interest the article concerning the (lack of) diversity in the LU faculty.

First, if the figures quoted were correct, 73 of 156 teachers is 46 percent and not 22 percent. The percentage of black staff was correct at 48 percent. Since the percentage of black students was given as 40 percent this is representative of the student population - but certainly not representative of the U.S. population, where the black percentage was about 13 percent in the last census.

It appears to me that, instead of diversity, the students (who already enjoy an over-representation of blacks on faculty and staff) want a completely black university.

I wonder what they'll do when they go out into the real world and discover that 87 percent of the population is not black and that there are no "safe spaces."
