Your Opinion: Different kind of table manners

Dear Editor:

Just wanted to make a comment about something that I have seen many people do in restaurants for years, and finally decided to say something about it because I think it's rude.

Maybe people just need to be reminded to use common courtesy and respect to others while eating out.

It's not enjoyable when people go out to eat and right when they get their warm food to their table, your friends just stand there and won't leave and continue to talk to you after your food has arrived. This is disrespectful to me.

It's nice to chat for a moment with people, but when we pay good money for our food and the very best time for us to eat it is right when it comes out to the table when it's served. Wouldn't you agree?

You want to eat your food when it's hot, but because your friends won't leave your table, your food gets cold.

To me that is so rude and seems non-caring to do this to others. Those people need to excuse themselves to go back to their own table.

Even if you start eating while they are standing there, it's still an uncomfortable feeling eating and trying to converse to them with your mouth full, so we wait until they finally leave the table, and by then your food is ruined.

If you don't get to eat your food within minutes, it's not as good, we've wasted our money and our time.

Another time, I was eating ice cream and a friend stood there talking to me until it melted, so then I threw the rest of it away.

I'd like to remind the older generation, mainly, to show proper respect for others please!

Just wave or say hello to acknowledge people, or write them a note or give your card and tell them you'll call or talk to them later, instead of hanging around their table till all the food gets cold, or melts.

It just makes sense to me for people to be able to eat their food and not be interrupted by others.
