For several years, Special Olympics Missouri has hosted Over the Edge - an event allowing those who raise $1,000 to rappel from the top of the Jefferson State Office Building.
It's been a successful venture for SOMO but they've decided to change this year's fundraising opportunities. Fear not though as the opportunity will still exist locally for OTE fans. The Council for Drug Free Youth will take over hosting the annual event, as was announced at Thursday's CDFY board meeting.
Registration for this year's OTE rappel launches immediately, and to encourage early registration, CDFY is offering a $50 early bird rate until April 21, after which the rate reverts to the normal $85.
The goal is to recruit 76 participants for the "Healthy High" signature fundraising event, scheduled for Oct. 26, to coincide with Red Ribbon Week. CDFY encourages residents to "Do something courageous! Help us motivate, educate and promote drug-free lifestyles. Let's go Over The Edge!"
In other business at the meeting, two local high school students received recognition for March Student of the Month. They are Andrea Stanford of Calvary Lutheran High School and Jack Shinkle of Jefferson City High School.
CDFY also announced the annual recognition banquet is scheduled for April 9 at Capitol Plaza Hotel. Tickets can be purchased at jccdfy.org or at the door.
