HOLTS SUMMIT, Mo. - The Rooster Creek Quilt Show is coming up soon - but don't get your feathers in a ruffle. There's still plenty of time to enter.

"We're going to have around 200 quilts," Rooster Creek co-owner Theresa Cuno said.

The show will take place July 12-14 at 190 W. Simon Blvd. in Holts Summit. Enter by picking up a quilt entry form at the Rooster Creek Company. Anyone can enter, regardless of level of expertise.

Attendees will vote to choose a best overall quilt, plus winners in each of four categories, including adult, vintage, youth and miscellaneous. Last year, more than 150 quilts were entered.

Admission costs $5, and hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. July 12-13 and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. July 14.

Just like last year, there will be at least 18 vendors peddling tons of quilting goodies, door prizes, concessions and even quilting demonstrations by expert quilters Linda Bratten, Christina McCourt and May Black.

Edie McGinnis, whom Cuno described as a "big name" in quilting, will do a trunk show. That's an old-fashioned way of showing off quilts you've made by pulling them out of a trunk one at a time and talking about each.

"It's kind of like a bed turning," Cuno said. "They'd lay them out in the bed and show one and show another. It's this old tradition that we still do today."

McGinnis' show includes scrap and feedsack quilts and is titled "Some of My Favorite Things." Some other quilters doing demos might bring quilts to show as well, Cuno added.

Cuno was excited to announce certified quilt appraiser Hallye Bone will be on hand to value quilts for a fee.

"That's our big thing," she said. "She can do verbal or written appraisals."

And, like last year, attendees will have a chance to help someone in need. Three gorgeous quilts are up for raffle, with money going to the Holts Summit food pantry. Tickets cost $1 each or six for $5.

"The charity raffle is really a cool thing," Cuno said. "When they buy a ticket, they get to put their tickets in the box for the quilt they like the best. One quilt was donated anonymously. It has a quilting theme and is really cute. The other two (were) made by the morning and evening guilds."

Those two are scrap-type quilts - one with jewel tones and the other pastels. Medallions designed by a local artist will also be on sale, and proceeds will be donated.

"We've been helping the food pantry in this last year and there just seems to be such a need," Cuno said. "There's families that need help, and that's where we wanted to help."
