Your Opinion: Happy to pay school property taxes

Dear Editor:

I read with interest the letter on Thomas Ault on Nov. 15 concerning school taxes. I agree with him that taxpayers must be concerned about how the tax money is spent by the Board of Education. He does, however, ask a question. He states that his children graduated in 1973 and he has been paying taxes for someone else's children and then questions "how about you?" I am a relative newcomer to Jefferson City and have only paid school taxes since 1986. I have never had any children in the school system. I am happy to pay those taxes because one of the identifying marks of a strong, solid community is quality public education. Therefore I will also watch how the tax money is spent but be proud that we are doing it.
