Felon charged with gun possession

A Jefferson City man has been charged after police seized four guns and more than 500 rounds of ammunition from a house on East Miller Street in April.

Robert Thrasher was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, and a warrant for his arrest was served Friday. Thrasher's bond was set at $100,000, according to online court records.

A Taurus handgun, Hi-Point Carbine rifle, H&R 12-gauge shotgun and an Ithaca 22-caliber rifle were recovered from the home April 21 after a search warrant was served, according to the probable cause statement. The guns were not in a safe or cabinet, police said.

Police said a witness, who is unnamed in the probable cause statement, bought the guns for Thrasher and shot them at a local shooting range. Thrasher is a convicted felon, according to the statement, and online court records show he was previously charged with fourth-degree assault, resisting arrest, and careless and imprudent driving. All three are misdemeanors.
