Bike racks popping up around town

Custom bike racks will soon be strategically placed throughout Jefferson City as part of an ongoing effort to make the community more welcoming to visitors and bicyclists, according to a news release from the Jefferson City Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB).

The project is coordinated by the Discover Jefferson City Foundation, a group of volunteers who work cooperatively with the CVB to develop and promote tourism in Jefferson City. The foundation plans to use raised funds to purchase the bike racks while working with the city to determine their final locations.

Dero Bike Racks, a PlayCore company, won the bid for the project.

The idea is consistent with the city's efforts in creating a more bike-friendly community including the most recent way-finding signage downtown and the approval of the pedestrian and bike plan aiming to improve the safety, connectivity and mobility for bikers and walkers, according to the CVB news release.

The custom bike racks are available to purchase for store or business fronts. There are two designs: a more compact display priced at $300 or a larger display for $1,350.

Those interested in purchasing a bike rack can contact Diane Gillespie, executive director of the Jefferson City Convention and Visitors Bureau, at 573-632-2820 or [email protected].
