Stream from home with new library resource

Hoopla has arrived at the Missouri River Regional Library, giving patrons a brand new way to stream digital content.

MRRL launched the digital streaming platform Monday. Since then, 354 patrons have signed up.

The platform offers a collection of audiobooks, movies, music and even comic books to patrons who have registered online at Hoopla's site, hold a library card, and are residents of Cole or Osage counties. Residents of Boone and Callaway counties also have the opportunity to use the resource if they hold a valid library card at their local public library.

MRRL Director Claudia Schoonover said they chose to transition to Hoopla to enhance the library's collection of digital offerings. So far, the majority of patrons are using audiobooks, movies and music, she said.

"We know that Apple TV, Netflix, Hulu, and other popular streaming and download sources are what our patrons look for, and we want to stay relevant," Schoonover said.

Through Hoopla, patrons have the option to download and stream content from the comfort of their homes.

Schoonover noted the major difference from Overdrive, the library's former digital platform, is Hoopla E-books are available instantly, and patrons do not have to wait for a copy to become available.

"What makes Hoopla so attractive is you can download things from home, and we are impressed with the variety Hoopla offers," Schoonover said.
