Scout volunteers honored at annual dinner

Adult Boy Scouts of America volunteer leaders in the Five Rivers District honored their own recently at the group's annual District Dinner. Lisa Wehmeyer, Mike Crocker and Greg White received the District Award of Merit, which is the district's highest honor for a volunteer. It is awarded to those who have given extraordinary service to scouting and their communities.

The Spark Plug was given to scouters who provide a "spark" that makes things happen in their unit. Spark Plug recipients include Cheryl Voss, Pack 3; Eric Landwehr, Pack 6; Randy Ferry, Pack 9; Heather Platt, Pack 17; Rick Rother, Pack 20; Janet Ruth, Pack 333; Mitchell Stossmeisker, Pack 333; Kenny Voss, Troop 6; Michael Johnson, Troop 8; Tim Kempker, Troop 10; Michael Stillman, Troop 22; Micaela Haymaker, Troop 394; Patricia Dohman, Crew 10; and Angela Archer, Crew 2006.

The Silent Service award recognizes individuals who are not registered scouters but provide support behind the scenes. Silent Service recipients include Jan Alexander, Pack 2; JJ Romines, Pack 9; John Plassmeyer, Pack 17; Craig Angerer; Pack 332; Matt Luadzens, Pack 333; and Keith Bertels, Troop 6.

Kent Nelson was named Commissioner of the Year. Other commissioner awards included Iva McDaniel, Roundtable Commissioner of the Year; Ellen Balkenbush, Rookie of the Year; Ron Mobley, Exceptional Service; and Cliff Olsen, Carl Porting, Larry Orscheln, John Keearns and Steve Hubble, Outstanding Commissioner Service.

District Executive Kelsey Walker presented "Lucky 7" (lucky to have you seven) awards to Michelle Gabelsberger, Carl Porting, Chris Wood, Ed Kniest, Cherylin Voss, Ellen Balkenbush and Mike Flanagan.

Eric Landwehr also received the Bronze Pelican Award from the Jefferson City Diocese's Catholic Committee on Scouting. He was honored for his contribution to the spiritual development of Catholic youth.
