Columbia woman gets probation

A Columbia woman has been placed on five years of supervised probation after pleading guilty to charges in connection with several shoplifting incidents in Jefferson City last year.

Julie Barksdale, 19, was charged with two counts of receiving stolen property, one count of felony stealing and one count of misdemeanor stealing in cases stemming from March through May 2016.

The incidents occurred at Target on West Stadium Boulevard, Dillards at Capital Mall, Ulta on Missouri Boulevard and Kohl's on Stoneridge Parkway, according to Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statements.

Barksdale took various items including purses, clothing, perfume and an air mattress.

In May 2016, she fled from officers and threw stolen items out of her vehicle before she was stopped.

The value of the items taken was more than $2,500.

Barksdale told officers she stole the items to take care of her child and pay her bills.
