Group seeks to create pocket park

Efforts to create a scenic trail by the East Elm Street office complex will be underway next month.

John Nichols, assessment and restoration specialist of the Hazardous Waste Program, is seeking volunteers to help create a pocket park on Elm Street. It will serve as a scenic walking trail right behind the Department of Mental Health. The first cleanup session will be 9 a.m.-noon Oct. 8.

The walking trail is on 3 acres of land that has become overgrown with honeysuckle, cedars, litter and other plants that will require the help of a team to remove.

Nichols is asking volunteers to sign up online at surveymonkey.com/r/CFKGN7J.

Throughout the duration of the project, volunteers will be needed for clean up, planning activities, organizing events and designing components of the park.

A second cleanup date is set for Oct. 15.
