JC man gets 3 years for stealing

A Jefferson City man was sentenced to three years in prison after a Cole County jury found him guilty of one count of felony stealing for an incident that occurred in November 2015.

According to Cole County Prosecutor Mark Richardson, Steven Heflin, 37, went into Kohl's on Stoneridge Parkway, selecting four shirts and entering fitting rooms. When he exited the room, he had only three shirts.

Heflin left the three shirts on the counter and claimed he forgot his wallet.

The tag for the fourth shirt was found in a fitting room.

Heflin refused to speak with loss-prevention employees, got into a van, locked the doors and fled the scene.

Heflin committed this crime approximately a year after being placed on probation for distribution of a controlled substance in Cole and Miller counties.
