Apartment damaged in Russellville fire

A kitchen fire Wednesday afternoon caused thousands of dollars in damage to an apartment in Russellville.

According to the Russellville/Lohman Fire Protection District, the fire was reported at 3:38 p.m. at 4819 Marion St.

Children were cooking french fries in a pan of grease on the stove when grease spilled on a burner, triggering the fire.

The fire spread to a coffee pot on the kitchen counter and the cabinets on either side and above the stove.

Fire officials estimated the damage between $3,000-$6,000.

Three children and two dogs were inside at the time of the fire, and they all got out safely.

A neighbor suffered smoke inhalation by going inside to get the dogs out. He was treated at the scene.
