Capital City ranks as 'cool spot for summer'

ConventionSouth magazine recently ranked Jefferson City as No. 4 of 10 in its list of "Top Cool Spots for Summer Events," according to a news release from the Jefferson City Convention and Visitors Bureau.

In late October, ConventionSouth editors compiled a ballot of 35 meeting destinations offering the best escapes from the summer heat. The ballot was shared on Facebook, allowing the public to place votes, and only 10 destinations made the final list, which includes breezy mountain retreats, refreshing rivers and oceanfront resort towns.

"Meeting planners and event organizers from across the country look for unique destinations in the South to hold their meetings and events. ConventionSouth's 2017 list of the 'South's Cool Spots for Summer Meetings' provides these planners with exciting destinations to cool off during the South's summer heat," ConventionSouth Editor Marcia Bradford said in the release. "By offering a place to stay cooler during the hot summer months, meeting planners can boost attendance and create a more comfortable experience for participants and therefore, increase the success of the gathering."

"It's no surprise our quaint river town catches the attention of meeting planners each year. Our central location and numerous summer events make Jefferson City an attractive community," said Diane Gillespie, executive director of the Jefferson City Convention and Visitors Bureau, in the release. "We are thrilled to make the list and appreciate everyone's votes."

Columbia also made the list, ranking No. 8.

The following list of 10 cities gained the top votes and will be included in the January print and digital issue of ConventionSouth Magazine shared with meeting planners from across the country. Cities appear in order by votes received: Chattanooga, Tennessee; Fort Smith, Arkansas; Fairfax, Virginia; Jefferson City, Missouri; Greene County, Tennessee; Annapolis, Maryland; Jacksonville, Florida; Columbia, Missouri; Conway, Arkansas; and Gulf Shores, Alabama.
