Oak Grove woman suffers moderate injuries after explosion in boat's motor

A passenger suffered moderate injuries after a boat's motor exploded and the vessel caught fire Saturday afternoon near the 38-mile marker of Lake of the Ozarks in Camden County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Christopher Walker, 27, of Oak Grove, Missouri, had just finished refueling his 1996 Mach 1 boat Saturday. Upon restarting the vessel, an explosion in the motor occurred at about 1:50 p.m. Saturday near Silver Sands Marine at the 38-mile-marker. The boat then caught fire and was totaled despite multiple agency assistance, the report said.

Passenger Sherri Walker, 53, also of Oak Grove,  suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Lake Regional Hospital for treatment.

Sunrise Beach and Gravois fire protection districts assisted the Highway Patrol's Water Patrol Division with the incident and boat fire.
