Greitens announces some inauguration activities

Gov.-elect Eric Greitens has announced times and places for some of the events connected with his inauguration as Missouri's 56th governor.

The formal inaugural ceremonies and event begin Monday morning, Jan. 9, in Jefferson City:

9 a.m. - Interfaith Prayer Service, St. Peter's Catholic Church.

10 a.m. - Honor Our Missouri Heroes with a reception in the Capitol Rotunda - A recognition of Missourians who have made great impact or sacrifices in their respective fields.

11:30 a.m. - Swearing-in ceremonies begin on the Capitol's South Steps, with the oaths of office for incoming Attorney General Josh Hawley, Lt. Gov. Mike Parson, Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft and State Treasurer Eric Schmitt.

Noon - Greitens will be sworn in as Missouri's new governor.

1 p.m. - Formation of the Troops, Capitol's North Steps. As Missouri's Commander-in-Chief, Gov. Greitens will review the Missouri National Guard and Missouri Highway Patrol.

1:30 p.m. - Receiving line at the Governor's Mansion, with Gov. Greitens and First Lady Sheena Greitens greeting members of the public.

3 p.m. - Public Hospitality Reception, Capitol Plaza Hotel. Described as "a place to get warm before the inaugural ball."

7 p.m. - Salute to Service Inaugural Ball, in the Capitol Rotunda, "a celebration and culmination of the Inauguration."

The governor-elect's website, newmissouri.org, includes an invitation for Missourians to "join our inaugural team by signing up to volunteer. We will need volunteers for service events, prayer services, the inauguration, and the inaugural ball."

Greitens also noted on his website the "inaugural ceremonies for Governor-elect Eric Greitens and other constitutional officers will begin with a week of service Tuesday, Jan. 3," and Greitens also is making his "Thank You Tour" next week, including:

Tuesday

10 a.m. - Truman State University Student Union, The HUB, 100 E. Normal St., Kirksville.

1:30 p.m. - Missouri Western State University, Hall of Fame Room in Spratt Stadium, 4525 Downs Drive, St. Joseph.

7 p.m. - Garozzo's Ristorante, 526 Harrison St., Kansas City.

Thursday, Jan. 5

11:30 a.m. - Mark Twain Museum, 120 N. Main St., Hannibal.

6 p.m. - Marquette Tower, 339 Broadway, Cape Girardeau.

Friday, Jan. 6

2 p.m. - Freeman Hospital West, 1102 W. 32nd St., Joplin.

5:30 p.m. - Missouri State University Welcome Center, 901 S. National Ave., Springfield.

Saturday, Jan. 7

2 p.m. - RBO PrintLogistix, 2463 Schuetz Road, Maryland Heights.

Additional Heart of Missouri events will be announced soon, as part of the statewide tour.

And the weekend before the Jan. 9 inauguration includes several religious services.

10:30 a.m. - Shabbat Service, United Hebrew Congregation, 13788 Conway Road, St. Louis

5 p.m. - Mass, Church of the Ascension, 230 Santa Maria Drive, Chesterfield.

Sunday, Jan. 8

8 a.m. - Prayer Service, Washington Metropolitan AME Zion Church, 613 N. Garrison Ave., St. Louis.

11 a.m. - Worship Service, Crossway Baptist Church, 2900 N. Barnes, Springfield.
