Traffic incident yields probation

A Jefferson City man has been placed on five years supervised probation after pleading guilty to two counts of second-degree assault in connection with an October 2014 traffic accident.

Johnny D. Quehl, 60, must also pay $2,500 in restitution and serve a 30-day shock detention sentence.

Police said Quehl was westbound in the 1700 block of U.S. 50/63 - west of the Eastland Drive interchange - when he lost control, and his Jeep went off the right side of the highway then down an embankment.

Two boys, ages 3 and 4, were riding in the vehicle.

The 3-year-old was ejected from the vehicle, and the initial investigation indicated the child was not restrained properly in the Jeep.

The boys were taken to local hospitals, where they were treated for injuries and released.

Quehl was using his seat belt and told officers he was not injured.

Quehl admitted to officers he had been drinking prior to the accident.

He also admitted he did not have a valid driver's license, and he has never had a driver's license. He had two prior arrests on his driving record for no valid operator.
