Shots-fired leads to Jefferson City woman getting probation

A Jefferson City woman pleaded guilty to an amended charge in connection with a shots-fired case in Jefferson City from October 2015.

Loretta Lewis, 29, pleaded guilty to resisting arrest. She had pleaded guilty to unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action.

The shooting occurred in the 800 block of Monroe Street. Shots were fired at the intended victim several times from a vehicle.

Jefferson City police responded to calls of the suspected vehicle being seen on U.S. 54 within approximately five minutes of the initial call.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, which failed to yield, and began a pursuit. After a short chase, officers stopped the vehicle on Southwest Boulevard near Southridge Drive and took the occupants of the car into custody. A search of the vehicle yielded two handguns and narcotics.

A Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement shows Lewis was the driver.

Authorities believe another person in the vehicle was the one who fired the shots.

Lewis told officers she had no idea who was shooting from her vehicle because she was scared.

"All I did was drive and duck when I heard the shots," she told officers.

When asked about a gun found in her purse, Lewis said she had no idea how it got there.
