Autopsy confirms two bodies in Camden County fire are homicide victims

Fire determined to be arson; identity of two bodies is still being determined

Autopsy results have confirmed two deceased persons found in the debris of a mobile home fire Aug. 29 in Camden County were victims of homicide.

According to information the Camden County Sheriff's Office released Thursday, forensic pathologists with Southwest Forensics conducted an autopsy Wednesday on the two bodies discovered in a burned trailer off Floyds Road early Monday morning south of Camdenton. Preliminary results of the autopsy confirm both individuals were victims of homicide prior to the fire.

The identity of the victims cannot be confirmed until DNA samples are compared to presumed family members, according to the Camden County sheriff's Office news release. Camden County detectives are working with the families of the two presumed victims in an effort to speed up that process.

The Missouri State Fire Marshal's Office also confirmed the cause of the fire as arson. There was evidence in the fire scene of an accelerant being used. Currently there is no suspect in custody, but the investigation continues, according to the Camden County Sheriff's Office.

The Camden County Sheriff's Office had interviewed of person of interest earlier this week following the incident. According to information the sheriff's office released Tuesday, authorities located a person of interest in the investigation. The person was interviewed, and detectives continue to collect evidence relevant to the case.

One of the presumed victim's vehicles was missing from residence when authorities arrived at the scene. The vehicle was located Monday evening in Laclede County, and investigators have collected evidence from that automobile.

The Camden County Sheriff's Office said more information would be released when it is appropriate.
