Missouri man given shock time in fatal crash

CRYSTAL CITY, Mo. (AP) - A Missouri pharmacist who was suffering a diabetic episode during a fatal accident has been sentenced to 120 days in prison.

A Jefferson County judge on Tuesday ordered 52-year-old Thomas Griggs to serve the "shock time" for a February 2013 crash that killed Londa Crump of Crystal City.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/1lPv52k ) Griggs told officers he remembered getting lost on Interstate 55 that day but doesn't remember anything about the crash in Crystal City.

Prosecutors said Griggs didn't properly manage his blood sugar levels that day.

Griggs' attorney, Ethan Corlija, said Griggs was following his doctor's advice on using insulin to manage his Type 1 diabetes.

Griggs pleaded no contest in February to second-degree involuntary manslaughter.
