Sheriff's Department investigating car theft at Russellville High School

The Cole County Sheriff's Department is investigating a car theft from Russellville High School.

According to a release from the department, one car was stolen and items were taken from two other cars parked at Russellville High School during Project Graduation on Saturday night. The vehicles were left on the lot at 9 p.m. Saturday and, when students returned from Project Graduation at 5:30 a.m. Sunday, a vehicle was noticed as missing. It was later found in 7900 block of Campbell Road and was totally destroyed by fire.

The other two vehicles that were missing miscellaneous items had been left unlocked in the lot.

The Sheriff's Department is following up on several leads, including video surveillance from the school. Jefferson City Area Crime Stoppers is offering a $500 reward for any information leading to an arrest.
