S. Callaway sweeps track sectionals

LINN - The South Callaway Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs took another step toward potential state trophies Saturday by winning Class 2 Sectional 2 team titles.

On the boys side, South Callaway finished with 93 points in a 29-team field and advanced participants to this week's state championships in 11 events.

Garner Rudroff (long jump) and Josh Brooks (discus) were individual champions for South Callaway, which also won the 4x100- and 4x200-meter relays.

The Fatima Comets, who tied for third with 56 points, advanced to state in six events. Tom Zeilman was a double-winner for the Comets, winning the 800- and 1,600-meter run titles.

On the girls side, South Callaway totaled 114 points to take team honors and advanced to state in 12 events.

Hannah Oberdiek (long jump) and Karli Leeper (shot put) were individual champions for the Lady Bulldogs, who also won the 4x100-meter relay.

Russellville was second with 74 points. The Lady Indians advanced to state in eight events, including the first-place 4x800-meter relay team. Fatima was fourth with 63 points. The Lady Comets also advanced to state in eight events.

The top four finishers at sectional move to the state championships, scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Dwight T. Reed Stadium.
