HARTSBURG - The Blair Oaks Falcons and the Eugene Eagles claimed spots in the Class 2 state golf tournament by finishing 1-2 Monday in the sectional tournament at Eagle Knoll Golf Club.
Blair Oaks won the title with a 334, while Eugene was second with a 347.
It's the first time the Falcons have qualified for the state tournament as a team since boys golf was introduced at Blair Oaks in 2012.
"It's really exciting," Blair Oaks coach Leroy Bernskoetter said. "I really feel good for the guys. It's just good to see all their hard work pay off. Hopefully, we have a couple of good days left in us next week."
Kory Franks of Blair Oaks and Walker Kesterson of Southern Boone shared medalist honors Monday with 74s.
Drew Gertiz of Eugene was third with a 75, while Tanner Elder of Blair Oaks was fourth with a 77.
Jake VanRonzlen of Blair Oaks tied for 13th with an 85, while teammates Austyn Moreland tied for 34th with a 98 and Corbin Singer was 39th with a 103.
"Sometimes a team will have one, but to have two really good golfers in Tanner and Kory, that's pretty exceptional," Bernskoetter said. "Jake is a freshman, but he really stepped up his game today, too."
Cody Shaw of Eugene tied for seventh with an 82. Jeremy Evers of the Eagles tied for 23rd with a 94, while Carson Doerhoff tied for 30th with a 96.
Blair Oaks and Eugene will play May 19-20 in the Class 2 state tournament at Silo Ridge Golf Club in Bolivar.
"Hopefully we haven't peaked," Bernskoetter said. "I think there's still room for improvement even after today."
Other team scores Monday included Palmyra with a 351, Macon with a 377 and Centralia with a 378.
