13 injured in area accidents

Two adults and three children were injured in a one-vehicle wreck in Jefferson City Saturday evening.

Police said a car driven by Brittney Vernell, 26, Jefferson City was, according to witnesses, driving at a high speed on South Country Club Drive. It passed other vehicles and failed to negotiate a curve in the road. The car ran off the road near the intersection of Old Lohman Road. It overturned and came to rest on its driver's side.

Jefferson City police said Vernell, passenger Tonya Vernell, 24, Jefferson City and three children under 6 were all wearing seat belts.

The wreck occurred about 8:42 p.m.

Other area wrecks include:

• A one-vehicle wreck involving five teenagers Sunday evening in Jefferson City resulted in four with minor injuries and one with more serious injuries.

Jefferson City police reported Brody Rhodes, 16, Jefferson City, was driving a vehicle took the left turn from Hibernia road to Mokane Road too fast, resulting in the driver overcorrecting and losing control.

All were wearing seat belts.

The wreck occurred about 7:17 p.m.

The report did not identify the person who was taken to the hospital for treatment.

• A Bland resident was injured in a two-vehicle wreck in Gasconade County Sunday morning.

Larry S. Kenney, 38, was taken to Phelps County Hospital with moderate injuries.

The Missouri Highway Patrol said the wreck occurred about 8:14 a.m. when a vehicle driven eastbound by Kenney slowed while on Missouri 28, .7 miles east of Route B. The vehicle was struck in the rear by a vehicle driven by Maureen E. Land, 55, Belle, who was also eastbound.

Land, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured. Kenney was not wearing a seat belt.

• Christopher A. Higginbotham, 18, California, was taken to St. Mary's Health Center after being involved in a one-vehicle wreck Saturday evening in Morgan County.

The patrol said he was northbound on Route D, about .7 miles south of Snipe Road when he ran off the road, overcorrected, skidded off the left side of the road and struck a ditch at about 7:05 p.m.

He was wearing a seat belt.

• Reed W. Derenzy, a 2-year-old Fulton resident, suffered minor injuries in a two-vehicle wreck Saturday afternoon in Callaway County.

The patrol said Lindsay C. Cassmeyer, 32, Fulton was northbound on Toute Z, about 1 mile north of County Road 108 when she was preparing to make a left turn into a private drive. She was struck in the rear by a vehicle driven by Gavin M. Bentley, 18, Fulton, who was also northbound.

All passengers were wearing seat belts.
