The Jefferson City Lady Jays almost certainly wrapped up the No. 1 seed in the Class 3 District Soccer Tournament with their win Friday night against the Waynesville Lady Tigers.
But with the postseason looming, Lady Jays coach Eddie Horn isn't sure of Jefferson City's mindset.
"We seemed flat," Horn said after Jefferson City's 3-0 win at the 179 Soccer Park. "We had some moments, but we weren't sharp.
"Are we to the point where we're ready for the playoffs to start, are we tired after coming off this stretch of tough games? I don't know."
But with only one game on the schedule next week, the Lady Jays will have a few days to work things out before the district tournament begins.
"It's been probably three weeks since we've been able to have a meaningful practice," Horn said. "It really shows in the fact that we're out there just playing, we're not as sharp as we need to be. We really need to spend some time on the practice field to get us back to playing the way I think we should play.
"I'm looking forward to us getting in some time training and see what happens."
The win against Waynesville wrapped up a 3-0 record against potential district opponents. Jefferson City has also defeated Camdenton (4-2) and Lebanon (9-0) heading into today's seed meeting for the upcoming tournament in Waynesville.
The Lady Jays got on the scoreboard with about 10 minutes left in the opening half. Tayler LePage of Jefferson City was fouled in the penalty area by the Waynesville keeper and Sarah Luebbert converted the ensuing penalty kick to make it 1-0.
Horn shook up the starting lineup in an attempt to spark his team.
"I thought that might inject some energy into us, but it's 1-0 at half because of a PK," he said. "So I don't know what to do right now because that didn't work."
Jefferson City made it 2-0 five minutes into the second half on another penalty kick. Luebbert was the Lady Jay fouled as Kaley Ruff booted the PK into the back of the net.
The Lady Jays got a goal in the run of play midway through the half. LePage threw the ball in on a restart, then immediately got the ball back on a pass. She then centered the ball to the front of the Waynesville net and Eden Hoogveld scored with a one-touch to make it 3-0.
Becca Sturgess and Megan Foster each made a save in goal for the Lady Jays, who picked up their 15th shutout of the season. Jefferson City finished with a 17-2 edge in shots, with a 6-1 advantage in those on goal.
Jefferson City (17-4-1, ranked No. 4 in Class 3) will wrap up the regular season Monday against Kickapoo in Springfield. The JV game will start at 4 p.m., with the varsity contest to follow around 5:45 p.m.
Jefferson City will not make up its game against Lee's Summit West from the Capital City Invitational that was postponed April 26.
In Friday's JV game, Jefferson City was a 2-0 winner against Waynesville. Gabi McGinty and April Krumm scored for Jefferson City. Foster and Morgan Moffat shared time in goal for the Lady Jays (14-2-2).
