EUGENE - The Eugene Eagles have been putting up some low scores this season.
That didn't change Monday.
Eugene shot a 320 as a team to edge Blair Oaks by four strokes and earn a first-place finish at the Class 2 District 4 Tournament at Redfield Golf and Country Club.
"With the experience and with the commitment these kids have made in the offseason, their games have just been really improved this year," Eugene coach Greg Geritz said. "At the beginning of the year, I was really excited about what we had to look forward to, and I really thought if the chips fell in the right direction that we might have a chance to do something as a team this year."
Drew Geritz and Cody Shaw both shot a 77 to tie for fifth to help pace the Eagles, who won the Show-Me Conference Tournament title on the same course last week.
"Drew has been playing well, so I knew he was going to hold his own," Greg Geritz. "Cody is a two-year varsity player and he has come on really strong - especially today.
"We've definitely had some success this year, and I was really glad to see the kids put it all together today."
Carson Doerhoff and Austin Russell both shot 84s to tie for 11th for the Eagles, while Jeremy Evers tied for 25th with a 93.
Kory Franks shot a seven-under 65 to earn medalist honors and pace Blair Oaks, which finished second with a 324. Tanner Elder shot the next best round for the Falcons, finishing in a tie for fifth with a 77.
"We're a little disappointed not winning a district championship, but Eugene is a great team," Blair Oaks coach Leroy Bernkoetter said. "We're happy to be in the top two and have a chance to move on. We have another day to go out and play and see if we can shoot a little better."
Corbin Singer tied for 20th with a 90 for the Falcons. Jake VanRozelen tied for 25th with a 93, while Austyn Moreland was 31st with a 95.
Southern Boone was third as a team with a 337. Walker Kesterson shot a four-under 68 to lead the Eagles.
Fatima, with Zackery Dixon shooting a team-best 85 to take 13th, was fifth with a 366. California finished eighth with a 382 as Dylan Kramel had a 91 to tie for 22nd for the Pintos. South Callaway was ninth with a 391 as Blake Parker tied for ninth with an 83. Versailles was 10th with a 421, with Trent Miesner leading the Tigers with a 96 to tie for 32nd.
Helias moves on
MOBERLY - The numbers fell right for the Helias Crusaders.
Despite finishing fourth Monday in the Class 3 District 4 Tournament, the Crusaders still have a shot at advancing as a team to the state tournament.
The top two teams in district advance to sectionals, along with the top 15 individuals not on those two squads. All five of Helias' golfers fell into that group, so the Crusaders will post a team score at next Monday's sectional at Heritage Hills Golf Course in Moberly.
Helias totaled a 333 on Monday at the Elk Creek Golf Course. Hannibal, which had the Nos. 2-6 individuals, won the title with a 301. Mexico was second at 329, one shot better than third-place Kirksville.
Carson Mueller led Helias, taking 14th with an 82. Clinton Campbell tied for 16th with an 83, while Matt Branch and Clay Carroll both recorded 84s. Andrew Schaumberg tied for 25th with an 88.
Two other area team played in the tournament. School of the Osage, led by Austin Hansen (90, 27th), was ninth at 386. Eldon, with Bailey Myers (94, tie for 31st) leading the way, was 10th with a 418.
Jays advance three
CAMDENTON - The Jefferson City Jays advanced three golfers to the sectionals after Class 4 District 5 play Monday at Old Kinderhook.
Gabe Trowbridge (81, tie for 11th), Andrew Hansen (87, 15th) and David Anderson (92, tie for 23rd) will play next Monday in the sectional at Carthage Municipal Course. They qualified by being among the top 15 individuals not on the top two qualifying teams.
Jefferson City finished fourth with a 352 in the tournament. Kent Uhlmann (96, tied for 27th) and Sean Burton (98, tied for 30th) rounded out the Jays finishers.
Rock Bridge was first at 304, with Camdenton taking second at 325.
Matt Echelmeier of Rock Bridge and Michael Pfitzner of Camdenton shared medalist honors with 1-over 72s.
Class 1 District 2
OSAGE BEACH - The Russellville Indians and the Linn Wildcats advanced three players each out of Class 1 District 2 Tournament play Monday at The Oaks at Tan-Tar-A.
Russellville, which finished fourth as a team with a 437, will send Coy Bond (96, tied for fifth), Deven Koestner (105, tied for 15th) and Cody Willingham (19th, 100) to next Monday's sectional at Heritage Hills Golf Course in Marceline. Other Russellville finishers included Austin Garrison (25th, 126) and Levi Anderson (31st, 138).
Linn, fifth as a team with a 448, advanced Jake Butts (99, tied for seventh), Cade Pinkerton (105, tied for 15th) and Brenden Bischoff (22nd, 114) to the sectional. Other Linn finishers were Levi Elliott (27th, 130) and Turner Foster (33rd, 143).
Thayer was first with a 384, while Gainesville was second with a 393. Thomas Ritter of Gainesville was medalist with an 8-over 79.
Class 1 District 6
WARRENSBURG - The Tipton Cardinals finished eighth Monday in the Class 1 District 6 Tournament at Hidden Pines Country Club.
Tipton totaled a 502 as a team. Daniel Buschjost led the Cardinals, tying for 22nd with a 115. Other Cardinal finishers included Reagan Ranney (116, tied for 25th), Rachel Newkirk (131, 38th), Mitchell Moon (139, tied for 42nd) and Jon Petree (140, 44th).
Lincoln was first as a team with a 389. Sedalia Sacred Heart finished second with a 391. Justin Evans of Green Ridge was the medalist with a 6-over 77.
